Transracial Adoption

Transracially adopted children often face challenges with looking “different” from the rest of their family. Learn how to help your child be proud of her cultural heritage. This workshop will provide parents with strategies to respond to your child’s questions about race, how to deal with racism, and practical tips to help your child build a positive racial identity.

Presenter: Antoinette Cockerham, LCSW, is the Associate Director, Domestic Adoption at Spence-Chapin. She developed our African-American Parents Advisory Committee, which provides input on program development issues social networking for adoptive families of color.

Ben Sommers, the Korea program coordinator at Spence-Chapin, has Masters Degrees in International Development and Korean Studies.
