Meet Andrea, an adorable 4-year-old girl in need of a loving and permanent family. Andrea is described by her caregivers as being a warm young girl who enjoys playing with others. Andrea has been living with a foster family since shortly after her birth and has shown great growth in her emotional independence over the last few years.
Andrea has a diagnosis of global developmental delay (including an expressive language deficit), cerebral palsy, and strabismus in her left eye. Andrea receives speech, physical, and occupational therapies at a center five days a week for a few hours in the morning. Her therapists have noted that continuation in these therapies will only help her to strengthen her motor and speech skills.
Andrea’s development presents more accurately as an 18-month-old girl’s chronological age and she requires constant support in carrying out her daily activities. She is able to sit up on her own and requires assistance to stand up and take steps. Andrea uses nonverbal gestures and signs to communicate and can imitate some words she hears from others and animal noises. She is not currently enrolled in school due to her age.
Andrea has been able to develop strong emotional bonds with her caregivers and the support team at the therapy foundation, which have enhanced her ability to acquire new skills. Her caregivers have noted that Andrea is a very special girl who has the potential for a great prognosis with a family who is able to care for her unique needs and provide her with unconditional love.
