Meet Iliyan!  Iliyan is described by his caregivers as a friendly and cheerful little boy who is always ready to play – and loves to meet new people. When meeting someone for the first time, Ilyan is known to immediately invite his new friend to play or engage in conversation.  He especially loves games and puzzles, to play hide-and-seek and to watch cartoons.

Iliyan is 5 years old and currently lives in a children’s home in Bulgaria.  Iliyan has been diagnosed with a moderate intellectual delay, strabismus and a behavior disorder, for which he is currently receiving medication. Ilyan meets with an occupational therapist three times a week to strengthen his skills. He is not able to feed himself and really enjoys his daily hygiene routine.

Iliyan communicates using short words and simple sentences. He frequently shares his thoughts and feelings with facial expressions and gestures, as well as songs, drawings, and physical touch. He is able to recognize the names of some animals and can build towers of blocks with assistance.
