We are looking for a loving, permanent family for sweet Samuel! Samuel is described by his caregivers as a resilient, easygoing and calm young boy who is ready to find his forever family.
Samuel has experienced some tough starts in his young life and came into the foster care system in Colombia in 2018. He has been living with his current foster family since March 2019. Samuel is 10 years old and recently began formal education for the first time. This, of course, has impacted his development, and he needs to catch up with his peers in several areas.
Samuel is now attending first grade where he is learning to read, write, and solve simple mathematical equations. While Samuel has shown advances in these skills, he is behind in age-appropriate educational benchmarks and has been diagnosed with an unspecified learning disorder. Since attending school, Samuel has shown significant progress in both his social abilities and academic learning. His caregivers shared that with continued support and the love and encouragement of a permanent, dedicated family, they believe he has the potential for significant academic progress.
In school, Samuel is described by his teachers as an organized and respectful child who assumes habits and routines with ease and complies with school rules. He loves to paint and enjoys dancing, playing soccer, and going to the pool – activities he looks forward to doing as a family. He also loves dogs and hopes to be able to care for one with his forever family.
Despite the challenges he has been faced with, Samuel continues to show himself as a resilient young boy who is able to adjust to new situations and environments easily. Samuel can be a bit shy, at times, and needs time to build trust with strangers – but once he does, he is warm, affectionate and articulate about his thoughts and feelings.
