Velcho recently celebrated his 4th birthday – his fourth birthday spent in the children’s home in Bulgaria where he currently resides. Velcho is described as a sweet and sensitive young boy who loves attention from adults and other children, and thrives in settings where he has focused, one-on-one support and affection.

Velcho has a primary retinopathy diagnosis which has resulted in blindness in both of his eyes.  Velcho also presents with delays in his cognitive and psychomotor development. However, despite this diagnosis, his psychologist believes that Velcho has some residual vision, as he follows the objects around him, reaches for and holds toys, and navigates through the surrounding environment. Nevertheless, Velcho’s caregivers anticipate that he will need intensive, continued physical and speech therapies for the development of his motor skills and language development.

Velcho is in need of a special family who will be dedicated to him and provide him with the endless love and support he so deserves. If you are interested in learning more about Velcho, contact our Adoption Team at 212-400-8150 or email us at

Velcho’s information is available through our Foreign Supervised Providers in Bulgaria until January 20th, 2020.
