Desde entonces, hemos aprendido m\u00e1s sobre el proceso, los ni\u00f1os y las necesidades de la comunidad de bienestar infantil de Sud\u00e1frica. Hemos aprendido que en Sud\u00e1frica el n\u00famero de ni\u00f1os que necesitan una familia sigue creciendo y que estos ni\u00f1os son hu\u00e9rfanos del SIDA que necesitan familias que puedan cuidar de ellos adecuadamente. En total, se estima que hay 3,7 millones de hu\u00e9rfanos en Sud\u00e1frica: ni\u00f1os que ya no son beb\u00e9s, ni\u00f1os con necesidades especiales y ni\u00f1os que forman parte de grupos de hermanos a menudo permanecen en orfanatos durante a\u00f1os, esperando que una familia amorosa cambie sus vidas. Poco despu\u00e9s de abrir este programa conocimos a Megan y Cameron. Megan y Cameron, padres ya experimentados (dos hijos adoptados de Etiop\u00eda y Uganda), sent\u00edan que su familia a\u00fan no estaba del todo completa. Cuando la pareja comenz\u00f3 a considerar sus opciones, un tema sigui\u00f3 emergiendo por encima del resto; En blogs y foros y desde sus propios corazones surgi\u00f3 la idea de adoptar un ni\u00f1o con VIH. Como dijo Megan: \u201cNo sab\u00edamos mucho sobre el VIH; yo sab\u00eda que Magic Johnson ten\u00eda VIH. Eso es todo.&quot; Pero pronto aprendieron m\u00e1s, much\u00edsimo m\u00e1s.  Aprendieron que con la medicaci\u00f3n adecuada, los ni\u00f1os pueden tener una vida feliz con una esperanza de vida normal. Incluso se enteraron de que, a pesar del estigma que todav\u00eda conlleva la enfermedad, el CDC (Centro para el Control de Enfermedades) en realidad ha <em>remoto<\/em> VIH de su lista de enfermedades transmisibles. Sabiendo esto, la pareja se acerc\u00f3 a Spence-Chapin para <a href=\"https:\/\/spence-chapin.org\/es\/adoption-programs\/countries\/b2_south_africa.php\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adoptar un ni\u00f1o de Sud\u00e1frica<\/a> diagnosticado con VIH. Ahora est\u00e1n en el proceso de completar el papeleo y esperan tener pronto un ni\u00f1o compatible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spence-chapin.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/HIV-Quote2.jpg\" alt=\" Cita sobre el VIH \" width=\"365\" height=\"261\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Megan y Cameron saben que en el futuro se cuestionar\u00e1 su decisi\u00f3n de criar a un ni\u00f1o con VIH. Saben que tienen un camino por delante para educar a su comunidad y reunir los recursos que su hijo necesitar\u00e1 para vivir una vida plena. Cuando se les pregunt\u00f3 qu\u00e9 fue lo que los llev\u00f3 a tomar esta decisi\u00f3n en su familia, cuando muchos otros tienden a pasar por alto a estos ni\u00f1os, la pareja pareci\u00f3 sorprendida por la pregunta. Megan dice: \u201cNo creo que nuestra familia sea diferente; Simplemente creo que se nos ha dado la educaci\u00f3n adecuada. Tenemos la informaci\u00f3n, por lo que no tememos el estigma del VIH. \u00a1Esto es algo que todas las familias pueden aprender!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como ocurre con muchos de los otros programas internacionales en los que trabajamos, vemos ni\u00f1os que esperan por una familia m\u00e1s tiempo del que cualquier ni\u00f1o deber\u00eda esperar. Los ni\u00f1os nacidos con el virus del VIH tienen la oportunidad de llevar una vida larga, plena y saludable, pero s\u00f3lo si las comunidades m\u00e9dicas y de bienestar infantil unen fuerzas para brindar la atenci\u00f3n y la permanencia que cada ni\u00f1o merece. A medida que nuestro programa en Sud\u00e1frica crece, nuestro compromiso con estos ni\u00f1os es m\u00e1s fuerte que nunca. Con educaci\u00f3n, defensa y adopci\u00f3n, esperamos brindar a cada ni\u00f1o lo que Megan y Cameron esperan para su futuro hijo: \u201cQueremos que la gente ame a nuestro hijo primero como persona.
