La directora ejecutiva de Jo&#039;burg Child Welfare, Lyn, comparte sus dos experiencias al conocer al Sr. Mandela.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">La primera ocasi\u00f3n fue su cumplea\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de convertirse en presidente. Se contact\u00f3 con Jo&#039;burg Child Welfare y se le pidi\u00f3 que organizara una fiesta de cumplea\u00f1os para ni\u00f1os de la calle de toda Sud\u00e1frica que se celebr\u00f3 en Johannesburgo, en Gold Reef City. Los ni\u00f1os fueron transportados en autob\u00fas, vinieron en tren o volaron a Johannesburgo para pasar el d\u00eda.  Estaba de vacaciones en KZN y mi marido insisti\u00f3 en que no deb\u00eda faltar a la fiesta, as\u00ed que me pag\u00f3 el vuelo de regreso a Jo&#039;burg para pasar el d\u00eda. Viaj\u00e9 a Durban muy temprano por la ma\u00f1ana y, casualmente, me encontraba en un avi\u00f3n lleno de ni\u00f1os de la calle. Su emoci\u00f3n era tan palpable que podr\u00eda haber sacado el avi\u00f3n de la pista.  Durante el almuerzo, Madiba se acerc\u00f3 para hablar con cada invitado, tom\u00e1ndolos de la mano durante todo el proceso y agradeciendo a todos por la contribuci\u00f3n hecha a los servicios para ni\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><em>Mi siguiente encuentro fue de lo m\u00e1s inesperado. Me hab\u00edan concedido una beca para asistir a un curso en el Babson College de Boston y quer\u00eda hacerles a los patrocinadores un regalo memorable.  Compr\u00e9 el libro &#039;El largo camino hacia la libertad&#039; y le pregunt\u00e9 a un miembro de la junta que estaba casado con un ministro del gabinete si pod\u00eda pedirle a Madiba que le autografiara el libro.  Hab\u00eda estado fuera del pa\u00eds y el miembro de la junta logr\u00f3 burlar a su portero.  Madiba indic\u00f3 que el \u00fanico horario disponible eran las 07:00 am del d\u00eda en que volaba a Estados Unidos.  Recib\u00ed una llamada telef\u00f3nica a las 07:15 am para decirme que deb\u00eda llegar r\u00e1pidamente a su casa, ya que deseaba reunirse conmigo para tomar un caf\u00e9.  No hace falta decir que me sent\u00ed totalmente intimidado.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Lyn explica que Nelson Mandela ten\u00eda una estrecha conexi\u00f3n con Jo&#039;burg Child Welfare porque su anterior esposa, Winnie, era trabajadora social en JCW en los a\u00f1os 1960. Lyn escribe: \u201cJo&#039;burg Child Welfare tambi\u00e9n fue bendecida con la generosidad de Madiba. Nuestro Proyecto Thembalethu Street Girls en el centro de la ciudad fue uno de los tres beneficiarios que recibieron una donaci\u00f3n de Madiba despu\u00e9s de su Premio Nobel de la Paz en 1993\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Lyn recuerda que Madiba fue humilde y le agradeci\u00f3 su dedicaci\u00f3n y contribuci\u00f3n a los servicios infantiles. Le llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n \u201cla actitud desinteresada mostrada por un hombre que dio su vida para garantizar la libertad para todos en Sud\u00e1frica.
