We are a Hague accredited agency with over 40 years of experience in international adoption. Since 1994, we have been finding and preparing families to adopt children from Bulgaria, a country that is party to the Hague Convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nmany children in Bulgaria, international adoption is the only possible route to\na permanent family. With this in mind, we are happy to share that as of April 1,\n2020, our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/spence-chapin.org\/yue\/%e4%bf%9d%e5%8a%a0%e5%88%a9%e4%ba%9e\/\">Bulgaria\nAdoption Program<\/a> will offer an additional pathway for prospective adoptive parents\nto explore. <strong>I<em>n addition<\/em><em> <\/em><em>\u53bb<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>the\noption of submitting an application for a specific&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/spence-chapin.org\/yue\/%e7%ad%89%e7%b7%8a%e5%98%85%e5%b0%8f%e6%9c%8b%e5%8f%8b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Waiting Child,&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong><strong>families may apply to be matched\nwith a child in need of adoption based on eligibility and openness around age\nand medical needs. <\/strong>This additional pathway will\nsupport our ability to bring more families into our Bulgaria Program and&nbsp;<strong>connect more children in need of adoption to\nthe families who are uniquely prepared to parent and ready to love them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through our Bulgaria Adoption\nProgram, Spence-Chapin remains committed to finding families for children in\nthe greatest need of adoption, including children with significant special needs,\nolder children, and sibling groups. Families who\nadopt from Bulgaria are able to indicate what specific needs they are open to\nthrough the process of reflecting on and committing to openness to those\nidentified special needs in their home study.&nbsp;\nA home study is an initial process and document that is used to describe\nand assess a family\u2019s readiness to move forward in an adoption process and\ntheir preparedness to parent a child with specific needs.&nbsp; The children in need of permanent families in\nBulgaria have a wide variety of special needs.&nbsp;\nOur partners in Bulgaria have shared with us that the most common\nneeds seen in the children in care include but are not limited to:&nbsp;<em>unpredictable or unknown developmental\ndelay, behavioral and learning disorders, intellectual\nand physical disabilities, fetal alcohol syndrome, blindness, autism spectrum\ndisorder, and Down syndrome.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The anticipated wait time to be\nmatched with a child can vary depending on an adoptive family\u2019s openness to\nfactors such as age and medical conditions. For families pursuing the adoption\nof a pre-identified waiting child, there is no wait time to be matched and\nfamilies can expect the entire process to take 12-18 months. Families who apply\nto be matched with a child can anticipate a timeframe of 24-36 months after submitting\ntheir adoption paperwork to Bulgaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bulgaria is a wonderful option for all types of\nfamilies. Single men and women, as well as heterosexual married and unmarried\ncouples&nbsp;living throughout the United States are eligible to adopt from\nBulgaria.
