紐約，紐約： Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children has launched a new podcast, 斯彭斯 - 查平嘅收養講座，, that brings together a multitude of voices and perspectives to discuss important and timely issues around adoption. Featuring in-depth examinations of a variety of topics as well as a diverse array of personal stories, Adoption Talk seeks to grow awareness around adoption and elevate the voices of those within the adoption community.
In the United States today, 56% of American adults report that they are not at all or only somewhat familiar with adoption, and yet 40% of Americans know someone who is connected to adoption, according to the Dave Thomas Foundation’s 2022 U.S. Adoption and Foster Care Attitudes Survey. The report also points to persistent misconceptions around adoption that can perpetuate negative stereotypes and leave those connected to adoption feeling isolated and misunderstood. Adoption Talk strives to provide clarity and insight around all aspects of adoption and the adoption community, and to improve understanding and acceptance around the world.

The first season of Adoption Talk includes episodes on parenting across race, birth parent stories, open adoption experiences, and adoptee identity. Guests include Black to the Beginning’s Dr. Samantha Coleman and Sandria Washington discussing the unique experience of being Black and adopted; Florencia Lalor, founder of the online space for adoptees from Latin America, La Voz del Hijo; Planned Parenthood’s Director of Specialty Training and Programs, Sue Wendelgass; and more.
