How We Support You in New York and New Jersey
If you are considering adoption in New York and New Jersey, you do not have to navigate the process alone. All of our services are free, and our compassionate team will support you without judgment or pressure. Services may include:
- Free counseling with a dedicated social worker who will listen, answer your questions, and help you create the adoption plan that feels right for you and your baby.
- Financial assistance with certain pregnancy-related expenses, such as groceries, medical appointments, phone bills, rent, and other needs. A social worker can explain what assistance may be available to you in New York and New Jersey.
- Newborn respite care through our Interim Care Program, giving you additional time to consider your options while your baby is cared for in the home of a trained interim care provider.
- Free legal services to help you understand your rights and guide you through the legal steps of an New York and New Jersey adoption.
- Hospital advocacy to help ensure that your wishes are heard and respected throughout your hospital experience.
- Ongoing support after placement for as long as you need it, including counseling and opportunities to connect with a supportive birth parent community through virtual meetings.

Support is available around the clock, completely free of charge and without pressure or judgment.

After giving birth, you may need more time and space before making a permanent decision. Through Spence-Chapin’s Interim Care Program, a trained and screened care provider can temporarily care for your baby while you work with a social worker from New York or New Jersey and consider what feels right for your family.

If you’ve received an unanticipated diagnosis or experienced a complication during pregnancy or after birth, you may be unsure about parenting and unaware of all your options. Our New York and New Jersey social workers can meet with you confidentially to talk with you about your baby’s needs and help you understand your options.

You have rights throughout the New York and New Jersey adoption process, and we will make sure you understand them. Our adoption process is birth parent-led, meaning you choose the type of plan, you choose the family, and you are provided with independent legal representation at no cost.
