We have been married for 4 years, and together for 7. We met doing a production of the musical “Sweeney Todd” and started dating after we had already formed a deep friendship. We recognized our age difference was not typical, but Blake says he always knew he was an older soul, and we have found that we complement each other’s strengths very well. There are two main reasons why we want to grow our family through adoption. Anne always knew she wanted to adopt one day, as she is adopted herself. Blake is visually impaired, and while he has been determined to never let this stop him in his life, he has also not wanted to pass it on to his children. Blake has always wanted to be a dad and has thought that adoption would be a wonderful way to become one. We look forward to not only the happy times being a parent will bring, but also being the support system for the challenging times we know life will inevitably throw our child’s way.
About Anne
Anne, actress/singer on tour with the Broadway National Tour of the musical “The Notebook”. Anne enjoys playing the piano, gardening, baking, travelling, and creating miniature models. She also loves to read – and read aloud to anyone who will listen! Anne loves making her husband and friends laugh.
Fun Fact: Anne loves all things mini! Around our house and backyard, you can find magical small items like little doors by the trees, a tiny room tucked between 2 books on the shelf, etc. She loves the sense of wonder that miniatures bring to the real world and thinks it could be fun to make up stories or fairy tales with children about the miniature worlds they see around the house.
About Blake
Blake, actor who was most recently performing in Scotland, participating in the Edinburgh Festival with his play, “Rift”. Blake loves listening to audiobooks, podcasts, and his wife reading books. Blake is a self-professed nerd who loves learning about history and science. He is a big believer in the gym, so he built one in their garage! Blake also loves cooking, playing with their dog, Sherlock, and playing Dungeons & Dragons.
Fun Fact: Blake loves playing tabletop games, especially Dungeons & Dragons. He runs 2 games at the local theatre for LGBTQ teens and tries to get friends together to play at our house as often as schedules allow. He believes that creativity and play are important in all stages of life, and because of this, our house is often filled with fun, laughter, singing, and general silliness.
Our Lives
Our life is different than most people’s lives in that we are both professional actors. That means we end up spending a lot of our time at home, especially during the daytime. When we are in shows, we work at night, and when we are filming TV or movies, the hours can be a bit longer. We are both primarily musical theatre performers; Anne has been in numerous Broadway, off-Broadway, Regional, and Touring shows, as well as some TV. Blake has performed regionally and on tour across the country in various musicals and is well known for his work on NBC’s “This is Us.” Because of our work, our house is happily filled with a lot of music and singing, and most often (until our child is school age), we will be at home with them during the day. We have a wonderful pup named Sherlock, who is 6 years old and very calm. We love taking him for long walks at the local wildlife reserve and reservoir – and he loves going for drives with his head out the window. We think he will be an excellent furry older brother! We love to travel and discover new places, and still, some of our favorite times are hanging out with our neighbors and friends, playing board games, or BBQ-ing in our own backyard. We are big readers – and Anne will often read out loud for both of them, as Blake is low vision. We would like our child’s life to be filled with nature, creativity, storytelling, playtime, and learning about the world. And love!
Our Family
We both have very strong ties to our families, extended families, and friends. Blake’s moms, Karen and Linda, live in Western PA, where he grew up, as do his 2 brothers and sister. His family is quite diverse: Blake likes to say that they make the tv show “Modern Family” look traditional. Blake’s mom and dad divorced when he was very young, and when he was 10, his mother came out as gay. Soon after, Karen met Linda, who is now her wife and Blake’s second mom. All of Blake’s siblings are adopted and African American, and one of them has an intellectual disability. Blake is especially close with his siblings and is excited for them to become uncles and an aunt – they will be excellent spoilers. We see them at least once every 3 months for about a week.
Anne’s parents are both deceased, and she has one older brother living in Washington DC. We are very close with her brother, sister-in-law, and 2 nephews, who are both out of college and working in CA and TX. Anne recently met her birth family; having known all her life, she was adopted. We have an excellent relationship with these “new” family members (Anne now has 42 1st cousins!!!), which include her birth mother and father as well as 2 full siblings. It has been a true joy getting to know them over this past year, and we are certain that our relationships will only grow and deepen. They are very excited about our adoption journey!
