Kenia

kenya ft

As a native New Yorker, I grew up in a vibrant Bajan household filled with laughter, storytelling, music, and the belief that love is shown through consistency and care. Those values shape how I hope to parent. Family centers my life. My mother lives in the garden apartment of my Brooklyn brownstone, and my aunts, cousins, and lifelong friends are woven into my daily world. My closest friendships date back to Saint Ann’s School and Brown University, forming a support system that shows up in both celebrations and challenging times. As a professional artist/performer, I work from home in my voiceover studio, which allows me to be present for daily routines while managing deadlines and occasional stress. I value structure as much as creativity, and imagine parenting with clear boundaries and emotional openness. That means setting expectations, following through calmly, and making space to talk through feelings when things go wrong. Friends describe me as creative with a dry sense of humor. I find meaning in simple rituals like dancing in the kitchen and time outdoors. I’ve always wanted to be a mother and hope to create a home where a child feels secure, cherished, and supported in becoming who they are.

Nuestras vidas

Life in my home is rooted in connection, culture, and stability. I imagine raising a child with predictable rhythms—school days, shared meals, and consistent expectations—balanced with room for play, laughter, and the flexibility that family life requires. We may play with Black Barbie dolls together, explore African-American history and art, or dive into creative projects that sometimes make a pink glitter-filled mess. A child might help me water my peach trees in the garden, go thrifting for new outfits, or dance with me at an outdoor festival. Weekends would blend activity with rest—park visits, theater outings, cultural events, and quiet time at home. During the week, my mother and I cook, listen to music, and maintain a steady home rhythm, even when schedules get busy or tiring. Through it all, I hope to help a child develop emotional resilience—naming feelings, handling disappointment, and repairing after conflict through calm, consistent guidance.

Nuestra Familia

One of the greatest gifts I can offer a child is a built-in community of family and close friends who are deeply invested in helping them grow. After my father passed, my mother moved into the garden apartment of my home, creating a warm multigenerational household where we share daily life. She looks forward to baking cookies, singing songs together, and telling stories from her childhood—simple routines that make home feel safe and familiar. Our family honors its history by gathering each Christmas to sing the carols my father loved, keeping his spirit close while celebrating where we come from. A child in my family would be surrounded by relatives and lifelong friends who show up not only for milestones but for ordinary afternoons, birthday parties, and playdates. Together, they create the same sense of love, resilience, and belonging that shaped my childhood and that I hope to share with a child.

Reflexiones finales

I know there is so much to think about right now as you weigh what you feel is best, and I truly appreciate your even considering me to be a mother and family for your baby. It means more than I can express. I deeply respect whatever decision you make, and I’m wishing you strength, peace, and blessings every step of the way.
