Jamie & Walt

jamie walt ft

Heyo! We’re Jamie and Walt, and we’re so grateful you’re taking the time to
get to know us.

We’re both Florida boys who met in NYC and fell in love 14 years ago. Over
the years we’ve built a life that feels full in all the best ways — strong
friendships, close family relationships, meaningful careers, friendly sports
rivalries, and plenty of adventures together. Early in our relationship we
founded a nonprofit together and have spent many years working with
amazing students across NYC, which reinforced something we’d always
known about ourselves: we wanted to start a family together.

Now feels like the right time for us to grow our family. We’ve had the
chance to grow up and become financially stable, and are ready to devote
our hearts, time, and energy to raising a child. We can’t wait to cheer from
the sidelines, read bedtime stories, celebrate every milestone, and discover
whatever hobbies and interests make our child light up. Our child’s interests
will become our own. More than anything though, they’ll always know they
have parents who love them unconditionally and will always be in their corner.

About Jamie

I was born and raised in sunny South Florida before making my new home
in NYC. I am blessed to have grown up in a close-knit family with my mom
and sister and surrounded by amazing friends. My mom and uncle were
both adopted, so adoption has always been a part of my family DNA. As a
kid, I spent as much time as I could outdoors and playing sports with
friends, and I still love being active today. These days you’ll usually find me
spending time with friends, bouncing around Central Park, cooking an
elaborate dinner while Walt curates the playlist, reading a new sci-fi series,
or trying to teach our two tuxedo cats new tricks. I’ve spent my professional
career in the marketing and nonprofit worlds and am currently the Director
of Brand Partnerships for the country’s leading culinary Foundation.

About Walt

I was born and raised on Florida’s Space Coast, where my brother and I both joined our parents through infant adoption. Yup – I am adopted too, and can’t wait to share that special bond with our future kiddo. Teach For America initially brought me to NYC, where I spent seven years as a high school teacher and discovered a lifelong passion for helping young people learn, explore, and dream big. That led me to starting a nonprofit that gives students opportunities to experience new cultures through international travel, and I’ve continued working in education ever since. Today, I lead education programming for a global media company, creating opportunities for young people to learn and explore careers in creative industries. Outside of work, I’m happiest traveling somewhere new (I just hit my 100th country!), watching movies, spending time with our pets, or serving as Jamie’s very enthusiastic taste-tester in the kitchen.

Fun Facts

One of our favorite things to do together is travel. Since we started dating, we’ve visited 50+ countries together and every Thanksgiving we skip the traditional holiday crowds to celebrate somewhere new around the world. Our travels together keep us young, teach us to stay curious & embrace new perspectives, and to appreciate all the new people we meet — a tradition we can’t wait to keep going with our future child.

Our Lives

Our life together is a solid balance of the daily routines we love and new adventures to keep things exciting. Some of our happiest moments are the simplest, wandering through NYC Parks, grocery shopping or roaming HomeGoods on a Friday night, cooking a crazy good dinner together, laughing over something ridiculous, or playing cards or games with our friends. We hope our home is one where our child feels safe to be themselves — a place filled with books, pets, playtime, curiosity, and lots of laughter. We want them to grow up knowing they’re deeply loved, encouraged to ask questions, and supported in becoming exactly who they’re meant to be.

Our Family

Family has always been at the center of our lives. We’re incredibly lucky to have loving families and a wonderful group of friends who have supported us throughout our time together. We both grew up in homes where honesty, kindness, faith of any kind, education, and spending time together were important. Coincidentally, we have many of the same favorite childhood memories like our Florida beach days, cooking big dinners with family and friends, Fourth of July fireworks, being outdoors, and holiday celebrations. We can’t wait to continue our family traditions while creating new ones of our own.

Final Thoughts

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We know this decision comes from a place of incredible love, courage, and hope, and we’re truly honored that you’re considering our family. If we’re fortunate enough to become parents to your child, we promise they’ll grow up surrounded by love, laughter, and unwavering support. We’ll celebrate who they are, help them celebrate where they began and discover who they want to become, and always make sure they know how deeply they are loved. Adoption has touched both of our lives in meaningful ways, and the opportunity to grow our family through adoption is something we will never take for granted.
