Spence-Chapin has more than 100 years of providing adoption services and we are here to guide you through the home study process. No matter your adoption pathway your process will begin with the home study. We provide domestic and international home studies both for families adopting through Spence-Chapin’s placement programs as well as for families adopting with another agency or attorney. If you are working with an attorney or another agency for placement, we will collaborate with them to ensure a smooth process for your family. You will have the support of an entire adoption team through the home study and post-placement services. We look forward to getting to know your family.
We provide domestic home studies for families adopting within our programs or with another agency or attorney. We will coordinate with your attorney or placement agency to ensure that everything is in order for court and ICPC. As you pursue and independent adoption with an attorney you can still access the range of support services of our agency. We can help you start to build connections with other adoptive parents. We welcome you to attend the panels we offer throughout the year featuring birth parents and adult adoptees. Your social worker will also spend individual time preparing you on topics such as talking about adoption with your future child, openness, and transcultural/transracial parenting.

We provide international home studies for families adopting within our programs or with another agency. No matter the country you are adopting from we can complete your home study and we coordinate with your primary provider agency to ensure that the home study not only meets state and federal requirements but also any requirements of the country from which you are adopting.
Growing your family through international adoption is lifechanging and we offer opportunities to hear first-hand experiences from parents already parenting through international adoption and from adult adoptees. We offer training on topics including attachment/bonding, the impact of institutionalization on child development, transracial/transcultural parenting, talking about adoption with your future child, the impact of early childhood trauma, and behavior management. We will help you identify local resources to support your future child’s social, emotional, academic and developmental needs.
We are familiar with the unique adjustment needs of families adopting relative children and we welcome working with families pursuing kinship adoptions.
