Sam is a talented artist and avid video game player! A quiet kid, he enjoyed chewing bubble gum while drawing a character he told us he invented (check out his incredible drawing below!). Once he was done drawing, he flipped over the page and, in very nice printing, completed an “all about me” worksheet. Sam is in the 6th grade and likes P.E. class best, although he was quick to say that he doesn’t really like it when they have to play basketball. He much prefers fútbol (soccer), and his social worker told us he is quite a talented player on the soccer field.
Sam enjoys listening to music, but typical of pre-teen boys, he was quick to say he doesn’t dance. Like most kids his age, Sam enjoys playing video games like Mario Kart and Halo with his friends.
Sam’s social worker shared with us that he is “a sweet, affectionate kid.” His reports further state that he has “strong abilities to establish interpersonal relationships and function effectively in group settings.” Sam continues to work on decision-making skills and learning to manage peer pressure.
We learned that Sam came into the child welfare system at age 9 after experiencing abuse and neglect, but due to his Indigenous heritage, it took a long time for his legal process to be resolved and for him to be declared eligible for adoption. Sam is very ready for a family to call his own! Is that family yours?
Sam would benefit from parents who can provide a nurturing environment while still supporting his emerging independence. A family who encourages Sam’s artistic abilities would be wonderful, and of course, if you enjoy playing or watching soccer, that would be great!
Sam is also eligible for the Host-to-Adopt program!
