Carrie & Jake

carrie jake ft

We’re Carrie and Jake! While Jake is from Buffalo, NY, and Carrie is from Chatham, NY, we met in 1995 as college students at the University of New Hampshire. We reconnected when Carrie moved to NYC in 2006 and have been together ever since. We really enjoy living in New York and try to take advantage of everything the city has to offer, from Broadway shows to baseball games. There is always a new neighborhood to be explored or a new restaurant to try out! We also love to travel and have taken some great trips to places like Italy, London, and even Thailand.

Home is our apartment in Brooklyn where we like to read, watch movies, and look at birds or work in the garden in our backyard. One of our favorite places is our lake house in Vermont, where Carrie is currently in charge of a major renovation project with Jake as her top assistant. The most important things to us are our friends and family. We are very excited to be parents and make our own family complete!

Our Lives

Life can be hectic sometimes but we manage to have a lot of fun. We live in a cozy but spacious apartment filled with books and music, and we really enjoy having a backyard and living close to the park. We try to get up to New England as often as we can, to see our families in Maine and New Hampshire and visit our house at the lake. Carrie loves to cook and if she’s not in her garden she can often be found trying out a new recipe. Jake likes to take a walk over to the park most days and in warm weather will often bring along a book or a pair of binoculars to see what birds he can find. We enjoy so much about living in the city but if we had to pick one activity as our favorite it would probably be going to the theater. At the time we are writing this, the last show we saw was ‘Hamilton.’ It was every bit as good as everyone says it is.

Our Family

We have a wonderful family and everyone is excited to see us become parents through adoption. Jake is very close with his younger brother, who’s a teacher in Washington D.C. His mom was a doctor and his dad was a nurse anesthetist. They are now retired and live in Portsmouth, NH, a very cool town right on the ocean that is a lot of fun to visit. Carrie’s side of the family is a bit larger – she has two sisters and we have six nieces and nephews who we really enjoy spending time with. Two of the girls are in high school now and we’ve been watching their basketball games on YouTube. Carrie’s dad is retired from Amtrak and lives in New Hampshire, and her mom is a newspaper editor who lives in Maine. Carrie talks to both of her parents on the phone almost every day. We are lucky to have a large group of close friends with whom we’ve shared a lot of great memories over the years. Jake went to summer camp for many years growing up and is still close friends with three fellow campers he’s known for over 30 years. He’s also close with five friends from high school who all live in the Boston area now. Carrie’s best friend, whom she’s known since college, lives in Brooklyn and also adopted through Spence-Chapin. Everyone has families of their own and our gatherings tend to have a lot of kids running around! We’re excited to welcome our baby into our loving extended family and group of friends. There is no shortage of love to go around!
