Jon & Elizabeth

Kronk Mitchell Main Profile Photo

We have built a fun-loving, intentional, and community-focused life and home in a busy city. We devote our working hours to creating films and expanding government services for immigrants and refugees. In our free time, Jon loves to hike, rock climb, and learn languages; and Elizabeth plays on an intramural roller derby league, experiments with cooking and baking new recipes, and reads voraciously.

We are hoping to grow our family by adopting a child. Throughout adoption, we want to offer our child the opportunity to grow into a responsible and creative contributor to their community, with access to many forms of learning, recreation, and creative expression. We love the life we’ve built and hope to share that with our child.

Job Description
Deputy Director for Policy, Office of Refugee Resettlement

Hobbies

Fun Fact
I was raised in France and Germany as my parents worked there when I was growing up. I moved to the United States at 17, and originally planned to be a musician before switching degrees to social work, and building a career in social welfare policy for immigrants and refugees. I speak French and German, and Jon and I try to go back to France periodically, to visit and maintain a strong connection with my country of semi-origin.

Our Lives

Our week starts and ends with a Saturday ‘sabbath’ consisting of a trip to the local farmer’s market, a big breakfast, watching cartoons, and doing other restful activities to recover from the work week and prepare for the week ahead. On Sundays, we attend our neighborhood church. Jon serves as the sound-guy for our services once or twice a month, and Elizabeth sometimes sings in the worship band.

During the week, Elizabeth works downtown from 9am-5pm, and Jon’s schedule is variable. On shoot days he is on set for 12+ hours. On non-shoot days he typically works from home doing prep work for the next project. We routinely eat dinner together at home, and host friends monthly, at minimum.

We ski and snowboard in the winter, hike and camp in the spring and fall, and explore Catskill swimming holes in the summer. We try to travel outside the city for vacation once per year.

Our Family

Jon and I, our cat Kepler, and our dog Joules make up our immediate family. We have close friends we try to get together with regularly and are very involved in our church. Elizabeth’s adult brother is a classical musician and lives nearby; he comes to dinner a couple times per month. Jon’s parents and siblings (including our 4 niblings) live in Delaware approx 4 hours away and we see them every Thanksgiving and a couple times throughout the year. Elizabeth’s parents live in Georgia and we travel down to see them every Christmas for two weeks.

Our best friends in the city have a new born (March 2026) and we have several families in our lives with children under the age of 5 that would likely be natural playmates of our child.

Final Thoughts

We are excited to have the opportunity and privilege to adopt a child who would benefit from a safe and warm home. We can’t wait to share our life, our adventures, and our whole selves with our adopted child.
