Every child deserves a family
For more than 115 years, Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children has been connecting children in need of permanent homes to loving, forever families and providing them and their birth and adoptive families with lifelong support. Through the generosity of our supporters, we are able to find incredible adoptive families for some of the most vulnerable children through our Special Needs Adoption Program and Waiting Child Program, which is often the last opportunity a child may have to finding a family. Your contribution ensures that every child, no matter their needs or circumstances, can have the love of family.
Spence-Chapin started the Granny Program in 1998 to offer one-on-one love, attention, and care to children living in orphanages around the world. The program addresses the difficult realities faced by children living in institutionalized care, who are often deprived of the one-on-one attention and care they need to development and thrive. For every three months a child spends in an institutionalized setting, a child will lose one month of linear growth, which can lead to developmental delays, increased emotional trauma, and attachment disorders that can have lifelong implications. The Granny Program is a simple but impactful model that pairs individual “Granny” caregivers—women and men from surrounding communities who receive training in child development—to children living in institutionalized care to spend several hours a day, five days a week, with that child, helping them reach developmental milestones and providing them with the love and care they deserve.
Adoption is not just one moment in time, but a lifelong journey. Spence-Chapin is there to support every birth parent, adoptive family, and adopted persons throughout all of life’s stages with community programming, counseling, and more.
