Ian & Jennifer

We like to think of ourselves as two down-to-earth, loving, funny people who enjoy sharing our lives with our friends and family, with whom we are very close. We’ve been married for eight years and have lived in Brooklyn for the past decade. We love living in Brooklyn. We try to maintain active lifestyles that get us out into our community, whether it’s hosting friends for dinner, visiting family or friends in the area, volunteering, or taking our two-and-a-half-year-old rescue dog, Sammy, to a dog park. We try to bring positive energy into everything that we do and to everyone that we meet.

Fun Fact
Every week for the last four years, we have seen a cultural event, such as a museum exhibition, a play, or a music performance. We call it “52 weeks of culture.” We love it because it makes us find fun(usually free or inexpensive) things going on in and around the city. Even if we’re tired, or don’t have a lot of time to fit in an event, we have always come out of the event glad that we made time for it.

Our Life

We are very active. Aside from our weekly cultural event, most of our activity centers around the basics of everyday life. For example, we take our dog to the dog park every day. We cook at home most nights of the week. Jen walks or rides her bike to run most errands (although we also have a car, which is great for visiting family and friends in NJ). We really like to cook for our friends and family and will often invite them over for dinner on the weekends.

Our Family

Family is very important to us. Ian’s mom and dad live half the year near Orlando and the other half in upstate NY. Jen’s mom is widowed and still lives in the house Jen grew up in northern NJ. We each have one older brother. Both are married and live close by: Jen’s brother lives in central NJ, and Ian’s brother lives in Harlem. We don’t come from big families, so our “chosen family” –our small circle of friends –is a key support network to us. Many of our friends have children, and we incorporate them into our social time.

Final Thoughts

“We are excited and humbled about the opportunity raise our own child and appreciate the consideration any birth mother is giving us to share in this beautiful journey.”
