Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children is a non-profit organization with over 110 years of adoption expertise. We have expanded our services into Arizona to provide birth parents, adoptive families, and their children with wraparound adoption services and post-placement support. The Spence-Chapin Way of providing transparency throughout our process, and ongoing comprehensive programming for each member of the triad will enhance adoption services within the great state of Arizona.
Our Full-Service Domestic Infant Adoption Program has connected thousands of babies with loving families, offering step-by-step assistance to help grow your family through adoption. We are delighted to be bringing this comprehensive adoption program to Arizona. We are currently rolling out our services there and encourage you to contact us for updates and inquiries.
Since 1995, Spence-Chapin’s Special Needs Adoption Program has been uniting medically fragile children with loving families across the nation. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we eliminate professional service fees, making adoption more accessible. Spence-Chapin accepts applications from families across the United States for this program.
Explore Spence-Chapin’s International Adoption Programs in South Africa, Colombia, Jamaica, and the Eastern Caribbean. We are able to work with families across the United States on their international adoption journey. With a commitment to finding every child a forever home, we’ve connected 4,000+ children to caring families, guiding them through the adoption journey with lifelong support and services.
In addition to our full-service Domestic Adoption Program, Spence-Chapin can provide home study services to families who are pursuing an independent adoption. Spence-Chapin has provided home studies for hundreds of families adopting independently and we have the expertise to work with you and your adoption attorney. In Arizona, we will be providing home study services very shortly. Please contact us if you are in need of a home study to learn about our timeline and process.
Our social workers provide free, compassionate, nonjudgemental counseling to women and couples who are facing an unplanned pregnancy or who have recently given birth and are unsure about parenting. For those who choose to make an adoption plan, we provide comprehensive guidance and support throughout the adoption planning process – including the ability to choose and meet the adoptive family, and select open adoption contact, if desired.
We are pleased to bring our lifelong support services to the Arizona adoption community! All of our virtual support groups are currently available to Arizonans. Whether you’re seeking community as a birth parent, exploring your adoptee identity, or navigating the complexities of parenting a young child or teen adoptee, our monthly Zoom meet-ups provide safe spaces to share experiences, gain valuable insights, and build connections with others who understand your journey firsthand.
For more than 110 years, Spence-Chapin has been committed to our mission that every child deserves a family, and has worked toward our vision of a world where every child belongs, adoption is a celebrated choice, and all families are embraced. Today, we are taking another step closer to that vision by expanding into the state of Arizona. Beginning in 2024, Spence-Chapin will be offering comprehensive Birth & Expectant Parent Services, home study services, and a full-service Domestic Adoption Program through our new regional office in Tucson, Arizona.
In consideration of opportunities for growing our geographic reach, we carefully explored a multitude of factors, and identified Arizona to be a state with a great need for comprehensive and inclusive adoption services, where our programs would have a profound impact on the lives of those we plan to serve.
We are thrilled to be able to expand to Arizona, while continuing to provide the same high-quality and comprehensive programs and services throughout New York and New Jersey.
We look forward to providing more details and information on our expansion into Arizona in the weeks and months ahead.
We will continue to provide updates as we embark on this exciting new chapter for Spence-Chapin. Below you will find some initial FAQs, but please check back to this page for more developments as we have them.
For over a century, Spence-Chapin has been providing adoption and adoption support services with primary concentration in the New York City area, on Long Island, and in New Jersey. With our experience and expertise, Spence-Chapin is excited to grow by expanding our services to a new state. In consideration of opportunities for expansion, we carefully explored a multitude of factors to help us determine in which state we would choose to begin our expansion. We have identified Arizona to be a state with a great need for comprehensive and inclusive adoption services. We are thrilled to announce that The Arizona Department of Child Safety granted Spence-Chapin our Arizona License in November 2023.
Under our Arizona license, we are excited to be offering options counseling to birth and expectant parents, adoption home study and post-placement services to adoptive parents, as well as adoption placement services to birth and adoptive parents. All services will be provided by Spence-Chapin social workers who are based in Arizona.
We will be accepting applications from prospective adoptive parents into our Domestic Adoption Program beginning in 2024. If you are in Arizona and interested in learning more about our Domestic Adoption Program, please contact us at [email protected].
We are looking forward to serving women and couples in Arizona by offering the same comprehensive birth parent services that we currently provide in New York and New Jersey. Spence-Chapin offers free, confidential, and nonjudgmental counseling on all of the options available to those who are unsure about parenting.
All options counseling services will be provided by a Spence-Chapin social worker who is based in Arizona and will be available to meet with our birth parent clients in-person and in the communities where they reside. We are excited to partner with many health and social service organizations across Arizona to connect birth and expectant parents to additional local resources and support. For women and couples considering adoption for their baby, Spence-Chapin will guide them through every step of the process, just like we’ve always done. We will ensure that our birth parent clients have a free independent attorney, and we will offer pregnancy-related financial assistance as permitted by state law. If you or someone you know would like to speak to one of our counselors, please contact us.
Spence-Chapin is not offering therapy and community programming services in Arizona at this time, but we look forward to expanding these services to Arizona in the near future.
Yes, Spence-Chapin is licensed to provide adoption home study services for individuals residing in Arizona who are seeking placement through an independent attorney adoption or international adoption.
