Katie & Josh

Couple

Hello, we are Katie and Josh from Brooklyn. Thank you so much for taking the time to step into our world. We’re inspired by your bravery as you take the courageous step of exploring open adoption. We understand your decision to place your child is an act of love. We promise to continue building our relationship with you and provide your child with a loving and happy home. As two educators who feel most at home in a classroom, it has always been our dream to have children. After coming to terms with infertility, we knew adoption was our next step. We adopted our son Max in April 2018, and he’s been the light of our lives. We enjoy an open adoption with his birth parents with regular visits. We’re looking forward to giving Max a sibling as we continue to build our family

Our Life

As teachers, we have built our lives around children, and we love being parents! We actually met at a Labor Day barbecue on the day before our very first day of teaching. We’ve since seen each other through 15 First Days of School, from the Bronx, to Harlem, to Tanzania, and now in Brooklyn. We love a good reading lesson, but we love a bedtime story snuggle even more.

It has long been our dream to settle down in Brooklyn because we think it’s a fantastic place to grow up! Our neighborhood has so many parks and gardens, a huge library, and a museum — all that we walk to with our stroller. We are active at our synagogue, which has excellent programs for children. Our home is a 2-story apartment on a tree-lined street with Josh’s fantasy kitchen. Our favorite time of year in our home is Passover, when we host as many family and friends of all faiths as we can squeeze in. We sing songs, play with puppets, and laugh long into the evening around our table.

We are proud, urban Brooklyners who get into the wilderness every chance we get. We spend most of our free time in the parks and gardens in our neighborhood, and we spend many weekends hiking in upstate New York. We also love to travel, and we’ve enjoyed our adventures both exploring and living abroad. Max has proved to be a great traveler, and we’ve adapted our adventurous spirits to a family version of traveling.

Our Family

We are so fortunate to have Josh’s family (parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephews) close by in the New York suburbs. We see them about once a month for family dinners and excursions in the city. We all go on a beach trip together every year with our growing brood spread out on the sand. Katie’s parents and brother live outside of Atlanta, and we see them 3-4 times a year with lots of outdoor adventures and strolls around small Southern towns. Both sides of our family have been very supportive of adoption, especially since we both have adopted cousins (including one who is transracially adopted).

Final Thoughts

We promise to provide a home full of joy, learning, and love for your child. It has always been our dream to have two children, and we look forward to building our relationship with you through that dream.
