Learn more about Bagels & Blox by reading our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Bagels & Blox?
Bagels & Blox is a beloved Spence-Chapin community-building event that has been around for 7 years, providing a space for young adoptees ages 0-5 years old and their parents to meet with other families, have fun, and make new connections.
What if we did not adopt through Spence-Chapin – can we participate?
Yes, of course! All adoptive families are welcome to join us.
What can I expect at Bagels & Blox?
A lot of fun! Play spaces are created for kids with mats, toys, crayons, art supplies and games. Parents are nearby enjoying bagels and other breakfast items and encouraged to chat with one another. Spence-Chapin staff are there to oversee the playing and eating areas, and we also have young adoptee tweens/teens who volunteer for the day!
What is included in membership for Bagels & Blox?
Registration for the 4 events on our calendar can be done on our website and includes access to 2 virtual parent groups throughout the year, along with one parenting or family counseling session with a Spence-Chapin clinician.
The virtual parent group that meets twice within the year welcomes parents who participate in the Bagels & Blox events, or whom have kids enrolled in Play Café, Jr. & Teen Mentorship programs. Topics vary, but the parent group is a great space to grow your own community!
Admission to Play Café is also included in registration for Bagels & Blox.
What is Play Café?
It is a one-hour play group for children ages 6-9 years in which a social worker facilitates an adoption-focused activity to explore adoption identity.
